daisyNews Top Comments (So Far)

Change starts when providers and other injured worker advocates unite their voices to demand change.

That’s the reason we recently added a comments section to all of our daisyNews articles– so you can share your thoughts, experiences, and insights with the workers’ comp community.

Below, we share a few of our favorite comments so far. We deeply appreciate these readers’ willingness to add their voices to our cries for a better and fairer workers’ comp system.

Moreover, we could accomplish nothing without our 5,800 (and counting) daisyBiller provider clients, who are the true power behind our growing movement — and special gratitude goes out to the 116 providers who’ve been daisyBilling with us from the beginning. These 116 providers are the “early adopters” that have trusted daisyBill since we first launched in 2012.

As our mantra goes, “we’re stronger together.” Keep the comments coming!

daisyNews Readers Have Their Say

Our very first comment came from a respected figure in the medical community, eager to see if our penchant for publicly shaming scofflaw claims administrators will actually spur the Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) to meaningful action:

“…thanks for keeping those toiling away in the trenches apprised of everything WC related…

In particular, I'm looking forward to seeing if the DWC Audit Unit actually conducts any targeted audits as a result of the work you have done, combined with the complaints filed. The last time I saw the DWC Audit Unit take any meaningful action was when Mark Johnson was the Manager — more than 20 years ago.”

Speaking of action, in response to our exposé on what injured California workers really go through (according to an adjuster, no less) another reader reminded us of three of the most powerful words in advocacy: “call your legislator”:

“This is exactly why I advise my abused patients to Google ‘my state legislators’ and call them…It's about numbers.

Remember, SB899 and related legislation was rammed through in 2004-5 when employers, the Chamber and carriers held statewide ‘town halls,’ lobbied the capital, and made a general stink about how doctors and patients were gaming the system. And this is what we have as a result.

The only thing that will change the system is enough people screaming at legislators, and enough press to make it hard to ignore…”

As is completely understandable, some of the comments we received embodied the frustration providers feel (as well as the humor required to bear abuse by blatantly non-compliant claims administrators):

“The Fox is guarding the Hen House. The hens must UNITE and refuse to participate in this farce. I'm ready to GO ON STRIKE! We will call our movement CHOPPED LIVER, as in "What are We? Chopped Liver?"

But along with frustration and humor, there is also fear among providers — who know that getting on the wrong side of entities that seem to fear no authority could have undesirable consequences:

That's what happens when insurance carriers have bought and paid for our legislators. Please do not publish my name or email as I am afraid of retaliation.”

In fact, it can seem like the only tangible consequence of bad behavior by claims administrators and their sidekick vendors isn’t fines or legal action, but the continued loss of qualified providers who just can’t take it anymore:

“Come on California WC system. Let's get this fixed! Outrageous. No wonder so many QMEs are leaving in droves.”

Finally, we received a heartbreaking comment which may be the most telling of all, from someone more directly affected by the inexcusable failings of workers’ comp than anyone else: an injured worker whose care was reportedly delayed by the obstacles inherent to a broken system:

I read your article and you know I was turned away by my doctor when I injured my back at work and the employer wouldn't step up and take responsibility for it.

When the doctor's office asked how I injured my back and I said I did it at work, they said, sorry we can't see you you have to go through your employer. It delayed medical treatment for weeks and only added to my injury by not being able to get help right away!!! This is surely a messed up system!!!!”

These comments are only the beginning.

We invite everyone who cares about the plight of injured workers to see daisyNews as your forum. Share the truth as seen from your particular corner of the battlefield, as we do the only thing we really can: keep fighting.
