Alert: Sedgwick/Availity Abrupt Split May Delay e-Bill Processing

With only hours of notice, clearinghouse Availity and third-party claims administrator (TPA) Sedgwick severed their relationship. The move may catch providers and their billing agents off-guard, as the electronic billing route by which providers could previously submit Sedgwick bills via Availity is no longer operable.

DaisyBill providers, rest easy; DaisyBill does not send Sedgwick bills to Availity. We electronically route Sedgwick bills to an alternate clearinghouse designated by Sedgwick.

For non-DaisyBill providers, we strongly recommend you investigate whether Availity is the clearinghouse routing your bills to Sedgwick, and proceed accordingly.

Availity & Sedgwick’s Mysterious Breakup

DaisyBill received the following email from Availity just before the end of the business day on July 29th, announcing that the Availity-Sedgwick relationship ceased to exist as of the very next day.

In the email, an Availity representative states that Availity “will no longer have a connection” to Sedgwick, effective July 30. The only reason for the split offered by Availity is “a lack of response” from Sedgwick.

It is unknown whether Availity chose to end the relationship, or Sedgwick simply ghosted Availity (and the providers who use Availity to submit e-bills to Sedgwick). While we don’t know the reason for the breakup, we can point out that such a drastic change in bill routing, announced at the last minute, will inevitably cause delays and confusion.

Whatever the cause, providers sending bills to Sedgwick via Availity will need to carefully monitor payment.

DaisyBill doesn’t miss a beat. Changes to TPAs, clearinghouses, and bill review services are just one part of what we navigate on behalf of our providers. To make billing easier and faster, contact us today.
